Job Description

I’ll leave it to the experts to explain what I’ll be doing until I actually start working. So, straight from the website: (https://www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/volunteer-openings/public-health-educator-volunteer-4454br/)

Public Health Educator Volunteers in Peru build the capacity of local institutions and health promoters to support efforts in local communities to raise the awareness and promotion of basic hygiene practices, early childhood stimulation, exclusive breast feeding and complementary feeding practices.
Volunteers work with teachers to form youth groups on sexual and reproductive health and leadership to promote healthy lifestyles. Volunteers generally work with mothers with young children and develop youth peer educators during their two-year service. Volunteers in this program will have opportunities to develop public health monitoring and evaluation skills.

Peru’s Community Health project’s main goals are:

Goal 1: Health Promotion. Low-income families with children under three year’s old and/or pregnant women, living in rural communities, will adopt healthy lifestyle practices.

Goal 2: Healthy Sexual Behaviors. Low-income youth (ages 12-17) and young adults (ages 18-24) living in rural communities will make healthy life decisions.
